BMW E39 Throttle Housing Removal

In the plainest of terms: it serves as an additional throttle body in front of your normal pedal controlled throttle. When the car senses you losing traction, it can close this ASC throttle body independently of what you are doing with your foot. The downside to this system is that it becomes an added restriction to the airflow into the intake manifold, especially with its location in the bend of the intake tract.

Even when wide open, its oblong throttle plate obstructs the air prior to reaching the traditional throttle body.

This in turn can reduce throttle response.

So removing it sounds like a no brainer right? Well, for most folks who strictly street drive their cars or drive in regularly icy or wet conditions, they may want to retain the stock ASC for an added margin of safety.

It helps being a very balanced chassis. The other is the IACV hose from the same car, so that it will properly line up. Too cheap and easy to just do it right. Not only do you have the ASC throttle plate creating a restriction but also this poorly routed boot.

Then remove the old intake boot by loosening the two standard worm clamps with a flat tip screwdriver.

The IACV hose has a plastic hose barb pushed into the bottom of the elbow and should come out with little force. Disconnect the ASC throttle cable from the throttle body. Remember there are two throttles and therefore two throttle cables. To remove it, simply open the throttle plate by pushing the bellcrank towards the cable bracket, then you can slide the end of the cable out.

Then you just remove the cable from its bracket. Unplug the electrical connector from the top of the ASC throttle body. By unplugging this connector, the ASC system can no longer function. To protect this connector from water intrusion, I wrapped it in self adhering silicon tape, then zip-tied it neatly out of the way. Now remove the actual ASC throttle body, which is held on with two bolts.

You can now lift out the ASC throttle and pack it away in case you ever decide to go back. The old IACV hose comes off next. This is probably the most difficult part due to the confined working area under the intake manifold. The hose is secured to the IACV with a worm clamp just below and to the right as you face it of the throttle body. A ratcheting bit driver like the one on the right makes the job easier.

With the old IACV out, you can take off the original clamp for use on the new one. In the photo below you can see a comparison of the newer hose left and original. The newer one is made to line up properly with the newer Z3 intake boot rather than contorting the old one into place. Time for the new intake boot. It goes on just like the old one came off. With the proper IACV hose, the plastic barb should be properly positioned beneath the hole in the boot. Finally, tuck away the now loose end of the ASC throttle cable.

You should be able to find a good spot right next to the actuator that it sprouts from. A zip tie can be used to keep it in place and hidden. And no, the actuator will not be moving the throttle cable back and forth, the system is in effect constantly off since it no longer senses the ASC Throttle Body.

The simple fix: remove the bulb. Allow any stray voltage to dissipate as well normally the dome light will do this nearly instantly, but waiting 60 seconds is probably enough. This will also avoid any nagging SRS airbag lights as well.Fits your Change Vehicle.

Heat Protection. Transmission Coolers. Replacement Radiators.Probably the biggest question that plagues BMW E36 owners is how to gain more horsepower from their engine without spending a fortune.

After getting humiliated in our beloved BMW Repair Guide E36 M3 at a recent track event by a new Suburu STI none the lesswe decided it was time to let go of our purist values and start making some engine modifications.

Our goal: how could we produce affordable horsepower using easy to install parts that were reversible if we decided to return the vehicle to its original specifications? Adding a new high volume silicone intake boot would complete the improvements. Sounds difficult? Not at all. It can be easily done in your garage without the need of hiring an expensive mechanic. The stock air box and air filter on a BMW E36 3 series car are power robbing parts that deprive your cylinders of precious oxygen needed to produce power.

But adding a BMW E36 cold air intake is worthless if the increased air flow you are producing is restricted or impeded. That is where the ASC delete comes in to play.

The ASC is installed so air must first flow through it before it enters the main throttle body. When the car senses a loss of traction the ASC throttle body will close, shutting down power to the engine regardless of what the driver is doing with their foot on the accelerator until traction is regained.

The problem with the ASC is that it restricts the amount of air entering the engine…even when it is in the open position. To truly gain the full performance of a BMW E36 cold air intake, the ACS throttle body must be removed and the stock intake boot replaced with a high performance silicone version. And as stated earlier, all of these changes are completely reversible if you wish to return to your stock configuration…just make sure to keep your parts. What brand cold air intake should I install?

As is with most aftermarket performance parts, that question is dependent on many factors. If you are modifying your car for your own personal driving enjoyment without any intent of entering it into a car show or selling it as a high end restomodyou really only need to answer two questions: how much will my budget allow me to spend, and is the intake manufactured by a reputable company with a history of producing high performance racing parts. Mishimoto is also a proven brand used on countless race cars around the world.

Together they create an awesome setup for about five hundred bucks. Silicone intake boot required — For your engine to receive the full benefits from the cold air intake, you must install a performance intake boot. Mishimoto silicone intake boots provide dramatic improvements in air flow which equals more power. If you are not sure what your car has, remove your intake boot from the MAF and measure the diameter of its opening before ordering below.

The following aluminum plug has been custom manufactured to be a perfect fit in your new silicone intake boot. The original plastic USA spec E36 headlights have always been considered an inferior product, offering sub-standard lighting and the tendency to scratch and yellow over time. European spec headlights are clear glass, offering superior road visibility and a performance look to your E36 3 series car. They are very easy to install…now is the time to do it!

It does not mean that it is going to simply drop in the engine compartment, everything will line up perfectly and you will be done in 10 minutes. To help our readers, we completely installed the AFE intake and Mishimoto intake boot, road tested it, then completely disassembled it to document and photograph our instructions.

Section 1 — Preparing the vehicle for installation Preparing the vehicle for installation includes removing the stock air intake assembly and the Active Stability Control throttle body. E36 Drift Build Ep.3: Deleting Useless Stuff

Okay so i have found a few guides as such from various forums but everyone wants to keep one or the other and they tend to be on daily's so they have to meet mot standards.

I dont care about dash lights and mot's as im building a track slag so my question is whats the easiest and cost effective way to remove both. Im fitting a hydro so i imagine that would cancel out the ASC or will it start confusing the car and cause weird issues? As for ABS just pull the relay?

08 x5 fuse diagrams diagram base website fuse diagrams

Ah right cool, may consider that in the future aswell. So for the time being just pull both fuses? Thanks for the part no dude. Danno Member. Sorry to revive a thread but which fuses do you pull? From what I can tell 10, 21 and 38 control the abs and asc. Then there are two relays. All I've done so far is disconnect the 2nd throttle body part. It's been so long but I think years ago when I did it there was a big ass fuse that was orange?

And had ABS writen on it. I thought that was a relay? I'll give that a try then. AllDayLong New Member. Joined: Jun 23, Posts: 5 Likes Received: 0.

Not to dig up a thread but what wires did you run too.

ASC Delete Intake Tube Plug

I ran one from pin 2 on the blue plug behind the cluster to I believe pin 15 in the Ecu. It was the same color as pin 9 in the x20 but nothing happened. I had the battery unhooked when I did this but did not reset the code with the scanner and nothing happened. Still falling on its face at You must log in or sign up to post here. Yes, my password is: Forgot your password?Removing the ASC will mean your rear wheels will just spin when you lose traction as opposed to the ASC killing power or applying the brakes to help you out when you wheel spin or you lose the back end. I personally love not having ASC!! Every time there is a "I crashed my car" posting one of the first questions asked is why did you turn off DTC.

I do the ASC delete all the time - there's a little button you can push ; I see no real point in deleting it, you aren't losing hardly any weight, and all you do is disable something that has the capacity to save your life. There are some times when I'm flying over mountain backrouds where if I lose traction, I could be off a cliff or into the side of the mountain.

I'd much rather have it there to catch any mistakes during daily driving and not have it when I want it. As for the CDV, I'd really love some info on that. Also, even if I have my foot completely off the gas, when I push in the clutch, my revs jump by about ish to before dropping normally.

Non-ASC Intake Boot - E36 325i/M3 (13541738757)

I've noticed for a slow shift this times the revs so that they are exactly matched when you release the clutch again, but even in normal daily driving I shift very quickly, so it bugs me having to time them slower to make them smooth. Is that normal? Does the CDV have anything to do with that? In this mode you can slide, spin and burn up your tires at will. That is why the delete makes no sense unless it is required by the governing body of the racing series you are running in.

Or am I not looking in the right place right in front of the shifter? ASC came in ?

e36 asc delete

Deleting the ASC is not just for allowing wheel spin all the time. IF people searched a bit before posting they would know this already! A car without ASC has a few more ponies than one without. When coupled with mods like the m50 intake and a CAI, it can make a difference. No mate, it is turned off when you press the button. Funny that mine shouldn't have it.
